The Challenge
A poorly located vintage Queenslander home in Deception Bay was experiencing serious stormwater issues. Even during minor rainfall, approximately 100mm of water would accumulate across the entire downstairs level. The property sat about a metre below the road curb, with surrounding yard levels elevated above the internal floor, directing surface water toward the house. Additionally, downpipes were discharging directly into the ground, worsening the situation.
Our Solution
Our team designed a complete stormwater management system to address the flooding. First, we excavated a large section of earth back to the property fence to redirect water flow and installed a retaining wall with integrated drainage. Next, we connected all downpipes and new surface pits to a central stormwater pit. A sump pump was installed within the pit to pump collected water back up to the street curb level for proper discharge.
The Outcome
The new system effectively eliminated the risk of internal flooding during rainfall events. Water is now safely diverted away from the house, and the property has remained dry since installation. The client was pleased with the transformation, particularly the long-term protection it offers to their home and its structural integrity.
